Puno-Cusco
Should have been the Andean Explorer train to Cusco, which
we were all looking forward to, but cancelled short notice due to strike
action. Took bus which ran mainly
parallel to train tracks instead, for full day journey to Cusco.
Broken up by
about 5 stops through various touristy bits. Spectacular views of the High
Andes range, small traditional villages with colourful highland people, with by
now usual sprinkling of vicunas and alpacas.
Tried to spot red plastic bags on long poles in various towns – means
that their home brewed Chicha (fermented corn drink) was ready to serve. Most
houses have two bulls and a cross on roof
- for good luck and prosperity.
Very nice buffet lunch alongside numerous other bus tours –mass
catering.
Arrived at Los Andes de America Hotel in Cusco which very
good and prepared to look after our main baggage whilst we went on Inca Trail.
Iain in a mood as unsure of plans. We needed to sort our luggage so that could
take minimal amount on Inca Trail. Briefed by tour operator at 7 and Walter the
Inca guide 7.30 whilst Iain went to buy lens filters. I found someone locally
to do all our laundry 10 solas per kilo and return in 2/3 hours. Bought Pisco Sours and Rum/coke on way back
to celebrate my last ‘working’ day. Demolished by the team as all knackered.
