Luxury day – Llao Llao Hotel
Visit to Cerro Campanario – mountain at 1049 m, accessed by
chairlift, with views of Isla Victoria and Puerto Panuelo. Beautifully sunny
clear day and gorgeous views of the lakes and mountains with a glacier in the
distance. Then to Cerro Otto, at 1405m, accessed
by a very dodgy old cable-car (with hinged doors and having to be physically
pushed by a poor unfortunate into the starting position). Thought I was drunk when trying to take a
seat for choco-cognac (to help celebrate St. Patrick’s Day of course), as the
seat kept moving away. Found out that it was a wooden revolving restaurant,
which gave 360 views without moving an inch. Nice. Could have stayed all day. This gave views of
the most spectacular LLao LLao Hotel - seriously posh 5 star hotel, supposedly
the most famous in Argentina, nesting on a peninsula between the lakes and
mountains. This was our bit of luxury
for the trip – after quickly booking in, we all took off walking in different
directions around lakes, golf course, islands, then finally back to the
Infinity pool set at about 27 degrees.
Group wallow whilst the hotel photographer took various photos of the
riff-raff.
Then all dressed for dinner (as much as we could in
‘travel-mode’) and pre-dinner drinkies in some baronial-style room. Confusion
reigned when trying to split the bill though and lesson learned in keeping to
smaller numbers. Into dinner, down a grand staircase with red carpet! I ordered lamb which had been cooking on an
open bbq spit all day, and tasted gorgeous. Unfortunately no-one received their
roasted vegetables until the meat was nearly finished which marred the
perfection and wasn’t great service. Bottle of Chilean Merlot helped. Enormous confusion with the bill which took
about an hour to settle and meant we missed the Tango dancing. Very
disappointing for such a posh place with about 3x staff to every visitor.
