Paid an extra 50R each to upgrade from the tourist pirate-boat
thingy to our own speedboat, leaving earlier and hitting all the sites before
other groups. Firstly the ‘blue lagoon’, which was more green, was a great
snorkelling area and I saw my first ‘boxfish’ like fish with massive fan-like
fins, and using two front fins like arms to overturn stones. Loads of
Sergeant-Major fish, parrot fish, and large shoals of unknown colourful
thingies.
Then on to two different
beaches where the boat used a sand anchor and we basically either sunbathed or
just floated about drinking the ice-cold beers.
Had a wander at one place to find an isolated church with a massive
palm-tree beside it which must have been about 50m high. Ridiculously tall, and
no idea how it could still be standing. Then finally hit an island with a
restaurant where we ate fish stew and prawns.
Idyllic.
Wander in the evening down through town to see the market
stalls, eat ice-cream and just take in the ambience of music drifting from
bars, warm sea breeze and very friendly people. Could easily come back here
again.
