Paraty – boat ride.
Firstly, a bit of the local flora for Pauline to name.....

Walked down to the docks which were heaving with multi-coloured tourist boats.

Carnage as they tried to extract themselves and leave. Luckily ours was at the end of the pontoon -  a double deck with lower galley. Positioned ourselves in the shade, having had far too much sun recently, and set off on a gorgeous boat ride.  Loads of little islands with a backdrop of mountain ranges covered in rainforest and every now and then the purple of Quaresmeira (the lent tree).

Stopped off at four different beaches/snorkelling sites where option of jumping in the sea, or waiting for a rib to take to the beach.

Loretta took this to the extreme with her
version of 'abandon ship'. Note, no engine or
oars. Some poor unfortunate had to swim
them in!

Did a bit of both with lovely warm sea and scorching sun.  Cold beers/cokes on board the boat and then everyone was fed – we had fish, rice and chips with salad. For some reason there is always a double-carbo hit in the dishes.

Back to town where we had heard the town were celebrating their anniversary with yet another festival – any excuse. Cake cutting ceremony which we missed, then unfortunately poured with rain so everyone gathered under a huge tent. Then the Samba band started which was ear-splitting but got some of the locals going with some very good Samba dancing.  Never seen anyone move so quickly! Eventually my ears gave up and we returned to hotel with the drums continuing till after 1am.
